A look at Evidence based practice and Equine Podiatry as a team!

Equine podiatry is a blend of the two highly respected professions each contributing to the task at hand, but neither formally educated and trained as collaborative team members with a common thread of podiatry principles. Therefore, learning the art of podiatry from the perspective of each profession requires each individual to develop working knowledge of the combination of farrier science and veterinary medicine as it relates to the foot. A thorough knowledge of traditional horseshoeing enables the veterinarian to better interact with the farrier, ultimately enhancing communication and promoting better quality hoof care.  The farrier that develops an eye for radiographic information and learns to recognize the value of utilizing it to assist strategic mechanical decisions greatly enhances the collaborative efforts as well as success. During the lecture and demonstration, we will be discussing Case Reports with the collaborative team efforts of each highly respected profession required for best results when foot issues become evident.

Dr. Raul Bras DVM, CJF, APF presents : The Proof is in the Pudding" - a review of evidence based practice and a review of podiatry best practices in regard to communication, collaboration and diagnostics.

Mr. Dusty Franklin CJF, ASF,AWCF presents: "Using Anatomy to achieve proper trim and fit" - no two horses are the same.  In this lecture Dusty will show how to achieve the best trim and fit for the individual animal through the understanding of the anatomy instead of theory.
